Aaron Carter Found Dead at 34
Aaron Carter, a beloved pop star of the early 2000s, was found dead in his home in Lancaster, California on Saturday, November 5. The American singer-turned-rapper and actor was behind songs like "Aaron's Party (Come and Get It)," “I Want Candy,” and “That's How I Beat Shaq.” He was 34 years old.
Police arrived at Carter's house on Saturday after a 911 call was made from his house sitter at 11am. The house sitter claimed the musician had drowned in the bathtub, according to a report from TMZ. Homicide detectives were dispatched to the scene, but found no information or evidence of foul play.
Born in 1987 in Tampa, FL, Aaron Carter began performing when he was just 7 years old, releasing his self-titled debut album in 1997. In 2000, he released his breakout record Aaron’s Party (Come and Get It), which featured the hit singles “I Want Candy,” “Bounce,” and “That’s How I Beat Shaq.”
The younger brother of Nick Carter, member of legendary late-1990s boy band Backstreet Boys, Aaron toured with the group early in his career. He also occasionally made guest appearances on Nickelodeon and Disney Channel.
Aaron would go on to release three more studio albums: 2001’s Oh Aaron, 2002’s Another Earthquake, and 2018’s Løvë. He also appeared on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars and in the Broadway Dr. Seuss musical Seussical.
Throughout his adult life, Aaron Carter was open about his difficulties with mental illness and substance misuse. During a 2019 appearance on The Doctors, Carter claimed he had been diagnosed with multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, and acute anxiety. He also said that he was manic depressive and discussed the many medications he’s been prescribed, including antidepressants and Xanax. In 2017, Carter spent time in a rehab facility, and he entered into an outpatient program earlier this year.
Aaron Carter is survived by his brother, and well as his son, Prince.
