Boy George Biopic 'Karma Chameleon' in the Works
A Boy George biopic titled Karma Chameleon is looking to shoot this summer in London and Bulgaria, according to Deadline.
On Tuesday, April 20, Boy George released a video stating that a casting call is underway to look for the actor who will play him. He also revealed Danny Mays (1917, Line of Duty) has been cast as his father, and teased "there are rumors of Keanu Reeves popping in." The production declined to confirm either actor's involvement.
Karma Chameleon will take audiences back to Boy George's humble beginnings in an Irish working-class family. It will trace his success in the 80's band Culture Club and their rise on the international charts. George became famous for his style and androgyny, but he also had his struggles - including substance abuse, an arrest for drug possession, and four months in prison.
The project is written and will be directed by Hitchcock and Anvil: The Story of Anvil director Sacha Gervasi. It will be produced by Kevin King Templeton (Creed I & II) and Paul Kemsley. George and Jessica de Rothschild are set to executive produce. Kate Ringsell (Wonder Woman) has joined the team to aid in the casting search.
Karma Chameleon was originally set to be produced and distributed by MGM, but has now moved to Millenium Media. Jonathan Yunger, Co-President of Millennium Media, said, “We’re elated to bring this amazing story to life. Boy George and Culture Club have been an inspiration to so many people. Specifically, George’s unapologetic way of being true to himself. He has paved the way for people to live their truth as fearless individuals. This is more relevant today than ever and we are so proud to have Sacha lead the charge on this musical journey.”
