Center Stage on Live365: 60's Chicks Radio
Center Stage on Live365 this week is 60's Chicks Radio - "Music by Women of the 60's Decade 24/7!" We spoke with station manager Thomas Callahan about their history with radio, their station's programming, and we got some music recommendations. Check out the interview below!
What made you get started in radio?
The mystery of seeing behind the scenes of a radio station
What brought you to Live365?
After leaving terrestrial radio, this was a great option!
What's your favorite part about running your own radio station?
Discovering new music myself or adding music that people are not aware of
Tell us about your station's programming. What can listeners expect when they tune in to your station?
Well, it has a female vibe, and it's not all the hits. You'll hear the wonderful voices of women of the sixties, with a selection that spans across many genres of music from that decade. And, for Valentine's Day, we're featuring love songs by women all month long. Next month, Women's History Month, we'll then feature women of the decade singing songs of protest and pride.
Name one artist that you play on your station that is underrated in your opinion.
What's your favorite music memory/moment?
Meeting American folk group Peter, Paul and Mary
Please list your top 5 or 10 songs, with a brief reason why each song made your list.
-
“I Shall Be Released” - Nina Simone
Nina covering Dylan at its best. -
“Tonight I'll Be Staying Here with You” - Cher
This was before she popped off. Also features support from great horns. -
“The Rain The Park And Other Things” - The Cowsills
Featuring Barbara in the group at the time, this is just a fun song. -
“Different Drum” - The Stone Poneys
Early Linda Ronstadt and it's wonderful. -
“Don't Just Stand There” - Patty Duke
One-hit wonders are great.
