Chappell Roan Spotted Filming Rapunzel-Themed Music Video in NYC

It looks like the Midwest Princess is giving her own take on a classic fairytale.

Photos and videos have surfaced this week of Chappell Roan shooting a music video across the streets of New York City. The pop star - who recently headlined Primavera Sound in Barcelona last month - is currently working on a mystery visual in which she’ll appear with yards of extra hair.

According to Billboard, photos taken Monday (July 7) show picturesque scenes of Chappell standing on a fire escape, draping her super-long red tresses over the railing, Rapunzel style. In more photos that surfaced Tuesday (July 8), Roan - now wearing an oversized suit but still sporting the lengthy extensions in her hair - shoots a sequence in which a taxi cab appears to drag her through the street.

It's not yet confirmed what exactly the Missouri-born pop star is working on, but all evidence suggests it's the music video for her unreleased ballad, "The Subway." Roan first debuted the song more than a year ago at 2024’s Governors Ball festival. She has since played it a number of times during live performances.

The singer last dropped music in March, with the country single "The Giver." It debuted at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and marked her first release since skyrocketing to fame. She won a 2025 Grammy Award (Best New Artist) thanks to her breakthrough single “Good Luck, Babe!,” which followed her 2023 LP The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
