Childish Gambino Shares ‘Lithonia’ Single Release Date & Gives Thoughts on Drake-Kendrick Lamar Feud

Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) surprised us all with an Instagram Live on Wednesday, June 26. During his time on the app, he clarified plans for his upcoming “Lithonia” single, blamed streaming platform Audiomack for allegedly leaking the release date earlier than desired, and even gave his thoughts on the Drake-Kendrick Lamar beef.

“‘Lithonia’ coming out July 2. That got leaked — kinda pissed me off to be honest,” he explained on Instagram Live. “That’s another reason why y’all don’t get good s--t. For what? It’s not valuable enough, it’s just a single. And I know who did it. Audiomack, f-----g no soup for you. You’re not getting the album now. That’s what time I’m on.”

“This morning, we learned that an Audiomack user correctly guessed the URL for Childish Gambino’s already-announced new single, revealing a July 2 release date,” a rep for the streamer told Billboard. “The music itself was never playable. We already have a fix in place, which we are rolling out now.”

"Lithonia" will be part of the next Childish Gambino album, called Bando Stone & the New World. It will be Glover's last album under the Childish Gambino moniker, and will be the soundtrack to a forthcoming movie of the same name. It's set to arrive this summer via RCA.

During his IG Live, Gambino was also focused on the topic of 'having more fun in life' and alludded to the Drake-Kendrick war as one of the most fun things in music this year.

“I’m trying to have fun. Because I feel like there’s just people not having enough fun,” he added. “When I was a kid there was, like, big things that would unite us, and I just feel bad for y’all. I feel bad for some of y’all.”

Gambino continued: “Even this year, the most fun we had was from a fight. [It] was a song from a fight, from a rap beef, which I enjoyed every minute of. It was very fun. But still kind of negative in a certain light, I guess.”

In May, Childish Gambino dropped his album Atavista, which was an updated version of his pandemic-era LP 3.15.20. Before that, Donald Glover's new TV show Mr. & Mrs. Smith premiered in February.
