Chuck Berry Documentary to Premiere at Nashville Film Festival
Rock 'n' roll pioneer Chuck Berry is the subject of a new documentary, which will premiere at the Nashville Film Festival on Oct. 4.
Directed and produced by Jon Brewer, the film, entitled Chuck Berry, will chronicle Berry’s remarkable life. Using interviews with other rock legends, including George Thorogood, Nile Rodgers, Steven Van Zandt, Gene Simmons, Alice Cooper, Paul McCartney, Ronnie Wood, and more, the documentary will showcase Berry's long-lasting impact on music.
The film will also feature interviews with some of Berry’s more reclusive family members, include Berry’s wife of 68 years, who gives her first interview ever.
The trailer, which was released today, features several artists praising Berry as a songwriter and guitarist. “He was the most important guitarist in rock history,” George Thorogood says. Nile Rogers notes that Berry “turned the guitar into a percussive instrument.”
In a statement, Jason Padgitt, the executive director of Nashville Film Festival, said, “Chuck Berry is an icon who uniquely combined his genius, style and attitude to inspire, diversify and excite the world while redefining modern popular music. In that spirit, we are thrilled to host the world premiere of Chuck Berry during the Nashville Film Festival’s 50th anniversary in Music City, where we proudly celebrate the best of film, music, and culture in one of the world’s longest running film festivals.”
