Coldplay Perform Songs From New Album on 'SNL'

Coldplay is back in the limelight. The British alternative band used their time on Saturday Night Live last weekend (October 5) to share two songs from their brand new album, Moon Music

The first was "All My Love," a stirring romantic ballad. It started with Chris Martin awakening a self-playing piano. One by one, members of the band joined into the song with instruments as he sang. There was even a small string section interspersed within the group. With stripped-down production and a breathtaking vocal track from Martin, the performance very much felt like a return to old school Coldplay.

The second song was more upbeat: "We Pray." The performance on SNL featured TINI and Elyanna, who appear on the original track. (Missing were UK rapper Little Simz and Nigerian MC Burna Boy.) The trio sang in front of a giant screen projecting multicolored visuals and lyrics to the track.

Moon Music was released on October 4. It is Coldplay's tenth studio album, and possibly their last before the group stops creating new music. Pop hit-maker Max Martin helped produce the record. It comes while the group is still on their massive Music of the Spheres World Tour, which started in 2022 and isn't set to end until November. Similar to the Mylo Xyloto Tour (2011–12), the concerts make extensive use of pyrotechnics and confetti. However, they've been adapted to minimize the group's carbon footprint. The shows utilize the first mobile rechargeable show battery in the world via BMW, and Coldplay plants a tree for every ticket sold. (You can find tickets for the tour here.)

The 50th season of Saturday Night Live kicked off on September 28 with musical guest Jelly Roll and host Jean Smart. Coldplay's episode on Saturday was hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze. Next up will be host Ariana Grande and musical guest Stevie Nicks.
