Drake Gives Update on 'Certified Lover Boy' Release Date
It's been three years since Drake put out a new album, but don't worry - new music is coming sooner than you'd expect. On Saturday (June 12), the Canadian rapper gave an update on the release of his long-delayed sixth studio album, Certified Lover Boy.
Drake let the news slip during an interview at the Ultimate Rap League’s NOME (Night of Main Events) XI rap battle event. When asked if he would attend an upcoming rap battle, Drake confirmed his full-length album would be available to fans before the end of the summer.
"Oh, yeah, I'll be there. My album will be out by then," he said.
Unfortunately, there are no more details about the album past that. Certified Lover Boy was originally scheduled to be released in January of this year, but was postponed. Drake explained why in an Instagram story.
"I was planning to release my album this month but between surgery and rehab my energy has been dedicated to recovery," he wrote. "I'm blessed to be back on my feet and feeling great and focused on the album, but CLB won't be dropping in January."

After that, rumors circulated the album would drop in April, but that didn't happen. Putting Certified Lover Boy aside, Drake has still released new music since 2019's compilation Care Package. In June 2019, he dropped a two-song EP called The Best in the World Pack. The following year, he unloaded Dark Lane Demo Tapes, which contained tracks that didn't make the cut for his last album. This past March, he dropped Scary Hours 2: a three-song EP with features from Rick Ross and Lil Baby.
Additionally, Drake was just named Artist of the Decade at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. Watch his acceptance speech below.
