Elvis Presley Graphic Novel to Be Released This August

A new Elvis Presley graphic novel, written by Chris Miskiewicz and illustrated by Michael Shelfer, will be released this August via Z2 comics.

Elvis: The Graphic Novel will cover Presley’s career, from his Memphis roots and start with Sun Studios to his later reign as the King of Rock and Roll.

On April 2, Z2 shared an excerpt from the upcoming novel. It focuses on Presley's adolescence, starting with a scene in a record store where he and a friend listen to Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats’ "Rocket 88": a tune written by Ike Turner and arguably the first rock & roll song ever recorded. The excerpt continues to follow Presley as he admires fancy suits and Cadillacs, peeks inside a Memphis jazz club, and enjoys a concert by the gospel group The Statesmen Quartet.

In the final part of the excerpt, Presley performs for the first time at his high school talent show. The story then shifts focus to the man who would help Presley breakthrough, Sun Records founder Sam Phillips.

Two limited deluxe editions of Elvis: The Graphic Novel will also be released. They will come with a blue suede slipcase, three high-quality prints, and a limited-edition picture disc of Presley’s debut album. The Super Deluxe Edition will also include a limited-edition art print that will be signed by the book’s creative team.

Elvis: The Graphic Novel will be available in both standard hardcover and softcover editions. The various editions are available for pre-order on Z2's website.
