Father John Misty Announces Fifth Studio Album & Shares Video for New Song “Funny Girl"
Former Fleet Foxes member Josh Tillman, A.K.A. Father John Misty, has announced his fifth studio album, Chloë and the Next 20th Century. It will be out April 8 via Sub Pop worldwide and Bella Union in Europe.
Father John has shared the tracklist and artwork for the new album, as well as other details. The project was produced with Father John Misty’s longtime collaborator Jonathan Wilson and mixed by Dave Cerminara. The album also features strings, brass, and woodwinds performed by the likes of Dan Higgins and Wayne Bergeron, all arranged by Drew Erickson.
In addition to the standard vinyl, CD, cassette, and digital releases, the album’s limited deluxe edition comes in a hardcover book featuring bonus 7" singles. One includes Lana Del Rey’s cover of the album track “Buddy’s Rendezvous,” and the other features Jack Cruz’s version of “Kiss Me (I Loved You).”
Father John Misty has also shared a Nicholas Ashe Bateman–directed visual for the song "Funny Girl." It's a sepia-tinged video which sees a jellyfish float across a dusty Wizard of Oz-esque landscape.
To support the release, Father John Misty has scheduled two symphony performances for 2022. One will take place February 25 at Walt Disney Concert Hall with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, while the other is scheduled for April 7 in London at the Barbican with Britten Sinfonia conducted by Jules Buckley. Tickets for these shows will be on sale Friday, January 7 at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster.
Father John Misty unofficially announced Chloë and the Next 20th Century last month by mailing fans a mysterious vinyl record with a spoken-word message detailing the project. Before that, he released the singles “To S.” and “To R.” as part of the Sub Pop Singles Club.
