Featured Spotlight Station: Fort Dodge Radio

Live365's "Featured Spotlight Station" this week is Fort Dodge Radio! We spoke with Bill Grady about their setup, what listeners can expect to hear, and the station's favorite songs. Check out the interview below!

What brought you to Live365?

It came about as a result of a breakfast conversation I had with my wife. I'm a veteran in broadcasting, and I had a blog and a website for about 12 years. So, I thought if I knew how to do it, I should do something called Fort Dodge Radio. For more about us, see our website and this article about us on Radio Ink.

What's your studio like?

We have a home studio with a HP desktop computer, Sennheiser MD 46 mic, Alesis mixer, AKG K280 Parabolic headphones, and Audacity software for audio production.

What can listeners expect when they tune in to your station?

We want to "wow" our listeners who use earbuds or headphones. We've spent hundreds of hours processing our entire library of 70s and 80s music to make sure it is a fun earbud/headphone-listening experience. The effect, which is achieved by slight compression, with fast attack and release times, giving vocals and instruments in the midrange a bit of "sparkle" and increased stereo separation, brings new life to many tracks from our library, and makes listening to the music a lot of fun. With many tracks, it's like discovering the song all over again, and it's that type of "wow factor" that I believe makes us unique, especially compared to over-the-air radio stations.

What has been your favorite moment as a DJ/Station Manager so far?

The best part is watching our station audience grow each month, and building our Alexa Skill from scratch was really rewarding too.

What is the best concert you've ever attended, and why?

My wife and I saw Kiss about 4 years ago. I was 54 years old and I was going to my first Kiss concert. They did not disappoint with a great stage show and lots of fun music. We also saw Queen a year later (another group I'd missed seeing during my youth) and it too was a spectacular show. I've always been a big Brian May fan, so it was great to see one of my guitar heroes live in concert.

What artist (dead or alive) would you love to see live, but haven't had the chance to?

Neil Diamond. Even though I consider myself a rocker, I loved him as a kid.

We asked for some of the station's favorite songs. Here's what they had to say!

Here are 5 "Grab Your Headphones" Songs on Fort Dodge Radio:

  1. Highway Star - Deep Purple
  2. You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet - Bachman-Turner Overdrive
  3. Just What I Needed - The Cars
  4. Music Time - Styx
  5. Pour Some Sugar On Me - Def Leppard
