First Posthumous Leonard Cohen Album Set for November Release

This November, the first posthumous album from poet and singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, Thanks For the Dance, will be released. Ahead of the release, a track entitled “The Goal” is available to stream now.

The musician’s son, Adam Cohen, lead the creation of the nine-track album using leftover sketches and poems from his father’s 2016 album, You Want it Darker.

In order to complete the album, Cohen got assistance from several contributors, including Leslie Feist, Beck, Damien Rice, The National’s Bryce Dessner, Daniel Lanois, and Arcade Fire’s Richard Reed Parry.

“In composing and arranging the music for his words, we chose his most characteristic musical signatures, in this way keeping him with us,” Adam Cohen says of the album. “What moves me most about the album is the startled response of those who have heard it. ‘Leonard lives!’ they say, one after the other.”
