Foo Fighters Drop New Track “Today’s Song”
Foo Fighters have returned with “Today’s Song”: their first new tune in nearly two years. It follows the band’s 2023 project But Here We Are (their first album without late drummer Taylor Hawkins), and their newly-shared cover of Minor Threat’s “I Don’t Wanna Hear It.”
Foo Fighters parted ways with Josh Freese, who took over on drums following Hawkins’ death, back in May of this year. According to Pitchfork, a press release for “Today’s Song” does not specify who is playing drums on the new single. (Deadline theorizes Grohl is the one doing so.) The press release does, however, specify the Foo Fighters lineup has otherwise remained unchanged: Grohl on lead vocals and guitar, Nate Mendel on bass, Pat Smear on guitar, Chris Shiflett on guitar and backing vocals, and Rami Jaffee on keyboards.

With the release, Grohl has published an online letter addressed to Taylor Hawkins, as well as his other band members.
In the portion of the letter addressed to Hawkins, Grohl writes, “Your name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile, but you are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever. The enormity of your beautiful soul is only rivaled by the infinite longing we feel in your absence. We all miss you beyond words. Foo Fighters will forever include Taylor Hawkins in every note that we play, until we do finally reach our destination.”
As for his other band members, Grohl wrote: “It should go without saying that without the boundless energy of William Goldsmith, the seasoned wisdom of Franz Stahl, and the thunderous wizardry of Josh Freese, this story would be incomplete, so we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the time, music, and memories that we shared with each of them over the years. Thank you, gentlemen.”
The new song, described in a press release as the band’s “opening salvo of its next chapter,” arrives 30 years since the release of Foo Fighters' self-titled debut album. The group have also dropped a lyric video for "Today's Song."
