Katy Perry Announces Next Studio Album '143'

Katy Perry will soon be releasing her latest studio album since August 2020's Smile. The new album is called 143 and is set for release on September 20.

In a press statement about her sixth studio album, Perry said, “I set out to create a bold, exuberant, celebratory dance-pop album with the symbolic 143 numerical expression of love as a throughline message.”

The lead single from 143, “Woman’s World,” will be out today (July 11) at 7pm EST. Perry co-wrote the song with songwriter Chloe Angelides and producers Vaughn Oliver, Rocco Did It Again!, Aaron Joseph, and the controversial Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald. (Dr. Luke was a producer on many of Perry's early hits, but she did not work with him on Smile or 2017's Witness while the producer was engaged with Kesha in a legal battle).

Details regarding the album are otherwise scarce. Smile produced a handful of singles including “Daisies” and the title track, but became her lowest-performing album in years with a debut at #5 on the Billboard 200. Since then, Perry lived in Las Vegas for her Play residency, which ran from 2021 to 2023. The final performance came last November with a hint that her next era would be coming soon.

Perry has also kept busy outside of music with a stint as a judge on American Idol for seven seasons. In February, she announced the 22nd season would be her last, and she finished her stint on the show in May.
