Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, & Emmylou Harris Talk ‘Trio’ in ‘The Sound of My Voice’ Clip
In a new clip from the upcoming Linda Ronstadt documentary The Sound of My Voice, Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, and Emmylou Harris talk of their collaborative album Trio and how it all came together.
After working to coordinate their schedules for about a decade, Ronstadt, longtime friend Emmylou Harris, and their idol, Dolly Parton, finally finished their Trio LP in the late 80s. The album went on to sell over one million copies and earned a Grammy.
In a clip from The Sound of My Voice, Ronstadt remembers when the album was finally a go. “Emmy called me up and said, ‘Dolly Parton’s at my house, you have to come over. I was living, like, 40 minutes away. I got there in 20 minutes.”
Parton recalls of the collaboration, “When we heard our voices it was like injectin’ some kind of serum into your veins.” “It was like a high like you’ve never felt.”
The Sound of My Voice uses new and archival interview footage with Ronstadt and several of her musical collaborators and longtime friends to spotlight her extraordinary vocal range and ambition that created unforgettable songs across genres, including rock, pop, country, folk, and classic Mexican.
The Sound of My Voice, directed by Oscar-winning filmmakers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, opens in Los Angeles on Sept. 6 at Arclight Hollywood.
