Lizzo Announces First Single in Two Years 'Rumors'
Yesterday (August 2), Lizzo announced the upcoming release of her first new single in two years. Titled "Rumors," the track will be released August 13 and will presumably be part of a future album.
“Rumors” serves as the follow-up to Lizzo’s suite of Cuz I Love You tracks and the 2019 Charli XCX collaboration “Blame It on Your Love.” The single also comes before several Lizzo live performances, including her stints at Bonnaroo (she will be the first-ever woman to headline the event), Global Citizen Live, Firefly Music Festival, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, and more.
Many fans hope the new song and possible album will bring a long-awaited #Hizzo - Harry Styles and Lizzo - collaboration. In any case, sources are saying the new song is a standout for the singer. Variety reports "Rumors" will be "very different" from Lizzo's previous work, and SZA may have even tweeted about the new track earlier this year, saying it was "the best song I ever heard in my life."

Cuz I Love You, released in April 2019, was Lizzo’s third studio album and undoubtedly her breakout release. Her singles "Truth Hurts," "Good as Hell," "Juice," and the Missy Elliot-backed "Tempo" became ubiquitous hits. She managed to become the most-nominated artist at the 2020 Grammys and won three awards: Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Traditional R&B Performance, and Best Urban Contemporary Album.
In other Lizzo news, the singer is executive producing a new unscripted series for Amazon Studios. The yet-to-be-titled project will follow Lizzo “as she continues to search for dynamic, full-figured women to join her world and perform with her on stage,” per the studio. “Only the most talented dancers and models will have what it takes to twerk it out on tour and stomp it out on the runway.”
The casting call for the project says it's looking for "full figured dancers and models who have for far too long been underrepresented and under-appreciated," and Lizzo herself stated in the call, "Here’s your chance to twerk it out on world stages and stomp it out on the runway for the adventure of a lifetime. Come as you are and be sure to bring good energy — and that ass. Got the juice? APPLY NOW.”
"Rumors" is available for pre-order on CD, cassette, and digital here.
