Mark Ronson to Release Memoir-Style Book on Early DJ Days

Mark Ronson is looking back on his time as a teen DJ in the 90s. The Oscar- and Grammy-winning producer/songwriter - who has worked with the likes of Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney, and Amy Winehouse - has a deal with Grand Central Publishing for a new memoir to be released in 2023.

Ronson's book, 93 ’Til Infinity, promises to be "a combination memoir-DJ study-New York celebration," with a focus on favorite venues and events.

“Before smartphones hit the dancefloor and bottle service & VIP banquettes shrunk the club, in the ’90s people stayed all night in the same place to dance, hustle, politic, and party like no one was watching — ascending hip-hop moguls, artists, hustlers, models, posers, dancers and hard-working 9 to 5’ers all rubbing shoulders with each other,” Ronson said in a statement.

He continued: “At that moment, New York was still the center of the music game and in the land of Biggie, Wu-Tang and Tribe, we celebrated them every night. More importantly, this era also happened to be the most exciting time in my life.”

Colin Dickerman of Grand Central Publishing said, “Given his talents as a songwriter, musician, and producer, it’s almost unfair how good a prose writer Mark is. His memoir transports the reader back to an era of New York City that was bursting with creative talent. There are plenty of bold-face names here of course, but more than that, the book offers an intimate look at how Mark developed the sensibility that has made him the extraordinary music producer he is today.”

The book borrows its title from Souls of Mischief’s 1993 debut album and its title track. According to the Hachette Book Group website, the memoir will be published in hardcover, e-book, and in an audio edition by Hachette Audio.

Ronson is known for penning the hit songs "Uptown Funk" by Bruno Mars, "Electricity" with Dua Lipa and Diplo, "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart" featuring Miley Cyrus, and the A Star Is Born smash hit "Shallow." He helmed Lady Gaga's album Joanne and Queens of the Stone Age’s lauded Villains, and has contributed to the soundtracks of HBO’s Euphoria, the 2016 Ghostbusters, A Star Is Born, Suicide Squad, and Disney’s 2016 live-action Jungle Book.

His last studio album, Late Night Feelings, was released in 2019, and featured Miley Cyrus, Camila Cabello, Lykke Li, YEBBA, and more. More recently, Ronson released his Apple TV+ series Watch the Sound, which examines sound creation and the technology that has shaped music
