Marvin Gaye's 1972 Concert in Washington, D.C. 'What’s Going On Live' Set for Reissue

On May 1, 1972, Marvin Gaye performed a concert at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. as part of a Marvin Gaye Day celebration. The show featured the singer’s only full album performance of his classic What’s Going On. Now, that performance will be reissued on vinyl for the first time on Oct. 18 via Motown/UMe.

What’s Going On Live also features live versions of “That’s The Way Love Is,” “You,” “Right On,” and “Wholy Holy.” “That’s The Way Love Is” and “You” are included in the first track, which is the 13-minute concert-opening called “Sixties Medley."

What’s Going On Live is available to preorder now, with “Wholy Holy” out now to preview the album. The reissue will come on 2xLP and CD, and both will include photographs from Gaye’s performance and new liner notes by the singer’s biographer David Ritz.
