Michael Jackson Musical to Skip Chicago Dates & Open on Broadway

The Michael Jackson musical, entitled Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough, will no longer debut in Chicago later this year and will open on Broadway in summer 2020 instead.

Producers said that the cancellation of the pre-Broadway performances was due to scheduling complications related to a recent Actors’ Equity Association strike over compensation for developmental labs. The actors' union represents more than 51,000 actors and stage managers nationwide. The strike was declared on Jan. 7, however it ended on Feb. 8.

In a statement, the Association said the change was “incredibly disappointing.” The show’s actors and managers found out about the cancellation after the producers’ public announcement. They also questioned how the strike impacted the production so heavily as the strike only delayed the show’s development for 12 working days.

Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough is inspired by Jackson’s life and music and will feature hits from the icon's career. The musical is based off of a book that two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage is writing, and Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon will direct and choreograph.
