Netflix Shares First Trailer for Avicii Documentary

There's a new documentary about Avicii coming soon. Netflix has shared the first trailer for the forthcoming film Avicii - I’m Tim.

Directed by Henrik Burman, the film sees conversations with family, artist colleagues, and best friends as they peel back the curtain on “the boy behind Avicii.” The doc includes interviews with David Guetta, Aloe Bacc, and Coldplay’s Chris Martin, among others.

Avicii – I'm Tim was first announced in 2023, and has been backed by Tim Bergling's estate. It will be posthumously narrated by Avicii himself, using archival video and recordings. The flick will be available to stream globally on December 31, alongside a 30-minute concert film taken from Avicii’s final performance at Ibiza’s Ushuaïa.

“Through unique home movies and a huge private archive, we get to follow Tim on a winding journey through life—from the very first breath at the maternity ward in Stockholm in 1989 to the tragic end in Oman in 2018,” reads the film’s synopsis. “Through himself and everyone close to him—family, artist colleagues and best friends—we get to know Tim—the boy behind Avicii—for the first time.”

Back in 2018, Avicii was found dead in Muscat at the age of 28. A posthumous album, Tim, was released in 2019. The upcoming Netflix documentary is not the first piece of media to try and capture the artist's legacy. Fans were only able to understand a sliver of the artist’s life in excerpts from Måns Mosesson’s book Tim — The Official Biography of Avicii published in 2021. It featured journal entries from the “Wake Me Up” artist which linked him to drug and alcohol abuse. His struggles were heightened alongside his anxiety.

Also in 2021, Google created their own homepage doodle in honor of the musician. Sweden has since continued to honor the DJ's legacy by opening an Avicii museum and renaming Stockholm’s Ericsson Globe as Avicii Arena.
