The last MixTape Tour happened in 2019, which found New Kids on the Block sharing the stage with 1980s' mall pop faves Tiffany and Debbie Gibson, as well as rappers Naughty By Nature.
“We had a blast out on the first MixTape Tour in 2019, and can’t wait to take it to another level with our fans on the MixTape Tour 2022,” NKOTB member Donnie Wahlberg said in a statement. “Just like a mixtape, these shows are going to take audiences through all the emotions. To be able to have Salt-N-Pepa come back and now also have the iconic and legendary Rick Astley & En Vogue join the tour…we could not be more excited. Let’s GO!”
New Kids on the Block's most recent performance occurred on August 6, when they sang together at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts for a one-night-only, sold-out show. It marked their first performance in two years and was their third show at the park.
As for their Mixtape Tour guests, Salt-N-Pepa recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy. 2022 will kick off with Salt-N-Pepa dedicating their Hollywood Walk of Fame star. Rick Astley is still coasting off the success of "Never Gonna Give You Up," with the song having traction on TikTok and recently being used on the Emmy-winning AppleTV+ show Ted Lasso. Over the past two years, Rick Astley has amassed a large amount of YouTube subscribers with a series of cover songs from his studio.
Finally, En Vogue celebrated the 30th anniversary of their debut album Born To Sing on April 3, 2020. The album was reissued by Rhino Records. The group closed out the 2020 Billboard Music Awards with a performance of “Free Your Mind,” and in March, they appeared with Salt-N-Pepa in Coming 2 America for a performance of their hit song “Whatta Man.” It was aptly titled “Whatta King” and was featured on the film’s soundtrack. They've also launched a podcast called Funky Divas.
NKOTB, Salt-N-Pepa, and En Vogue made an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Monday to give fans a sneak peak of what to expect when they hit the road next spring. The groups teamed up in a medley of their hits, including "Step by Step," "Whatta Man," and "Hangin' Tough."
Tickets for the tour go on sale via Ticketmaster on Friday, Oct. 8 at 11am. Official fan club presale tickets go on sale Thursday at 10am. For more information on VIP packages and NKOTB fan club pre-sales, visit the New Kids on the Block official website.
