Nickelback Prep 10th Studio Album 'Get Rollin''

Nickelback have announced their latest album, Get Rollin’. The band's tenth studio album is set for release on November 18 via BMG.

Back in August 2021, the four-piece teased that they were working on a new record, which will be their first LP since 2017’s Feed The Machine. “We’ve spent the last few years making a record at a pace that gave us the freedom to create and we can’t wait for everyone to hear the new music,” the band said in a statement. “We’ve missed the fans and look forward to bringing the new songs to life on stage, so let’s Get Rollin’!”

The news comes a week after Nickelback provided fans with a phone number to text, asking, "Have you seen Nickelback?" as part of the rollout. Sending a message to the number allowed fans to access a giveaway and other goodies. One of those goodies was a snippet of a blistering guitar solo, most likely from Get Rollin'.

Along with the album announcement, the project's lead single "San Quentin" has been released today (September 7). Inspired by a meeting that Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger had with a real-life warden from the notorious high security California prison, the song tells the story of a prison break. It comes with a new lyric video that's full of police sirens, fire, and high-speed car drives.

Chad Kroeger spoke to WRAT about the new song. "I met the [San Quentin prison] warden at a party. And I couldn’t believe how young he was," he said. "I was, like, ‘There’s just no way that you’re the warden of San Quentin,’ and everyone was, like, ‘Yup. He is.’" He continued, "And the entire time we were talking, I’m, like, [laughs] I’m speaking to this guy, but in my head all I could think about was, ‘I’m gonna write a song called 'San Quentin’. That’s it.‘ And I stuck it in my notes in my phone. And then once the riff was down, I think I screamed out this line, 'Can somebody please keep me the hell out of San Quentin?’ And we just took it from there."

Ryan Peake also told WRAT more about the track, "It’s funny. We’ve been hearing that [the teaser clip sounds like the heaviest song we have ever written] quite a bit. It’s actually interesting because I think NICKELBACK fans would know for sure [that it’s us once they heard the full song]. I don’t think it’s unusual...It’s a heavy rock song, and if you’ve seen us live, you would definitely get it. But I kind of like that people are feeling like it’s a surprise that we can have rock songs like that in the repertoire."
