Nicki Minaj Reveals Her New Album Will Drop in October
Rap superstar Nicki Minaj has announced there will be a follow-up to her 2018 album Queen, and it is set to drop October 20.
Minaj made the Barbz go nuts by sharing the news over Twitter. “10/20/23 The Album,” she posted alongside emojis of a CD and a pink bow.
The new LP announcement arrives after a busy few years for Minaj, despite being five years since her last studio effort. She earned her first-ever #1 single in 2020 – the remix of Doja Cat’s “Say So.” Then in 2021, the first official streaming release of her 2009 mixtape, Beam Me Up Scotty, was shared. In 2022, she released the Rick James-sampling single “Super Freaky Girl,” which made her the first solo female rapper to debut atop the Billboard singles chart since Ms. Lauryn Hill. She also won the MTV VMAs’ Video Vanguard Award in 2022.
The release of the album is projected to be huge for the music industry. 2018’s Queen peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200. The rest of her studio albums – 2010’s Pink Friday, 2012’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded and 2014’s The Pinkprint – have all reached the top five of the all-genre albums chart, with Pink Friday and Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded reaching #1.
Another special detail about this upcoming Minaj album? It could be the first to be released under her own record label, Heavy On It, which she announced earlier this year on her Queen Radio show.
In 2023, she’s been steadily releasing new music, including “Red Ruby da Sleaze,” the Ice Spice collaboration “Princess Diana,” and her Sexyy Red collaboration, “Pound Town 2.” Additionally, she's set to appear on the upcoming star-studded soundtrack for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, which has a theatrical release date set for July 21.
