Paul McCartney Back at Number One
For the first time in more than 36 years, Paul McCartney has earned the number one spot for his new album on the Billboard 200. His latest album "Egypt Station" sold more than 153,000 copies in its debut week, skyrocketing the album to number one.
The album was released on September 7. Of the 153,000 copies sold in its first week, 147,000 were traditional album sales.
"Egypt Station" is McCartney's eighth number one album, but he hasn't seen that top spot in more than 36 years. On June 12, 1982, McCartney led the chart with "Tug of War." According to Billboard, this is the longest gap between number ones for a living artist in the history of the Billboard 200.
