PBS Memorial Day Concert Changed to Televised Event

The annual Memorial Day weekend concert at the U.S. Capitol will still happen this year as a pre-recorded television event that will air on PBS.

The 90-minute televised event will feature performers like Trace Adkins, Cynthia Erivo, Renee Fleming, and Christopher Jackson. Some performances will be recorded remotely while others will be recorded from the Capitol grounds with the social distancing requirements in place. Performances recorded in previous years will also be included.

In addition to performances, there will be special messages from celebrities like Jennifer Garner, Jon Hamm, Dule Hill, Lisa Kudrow, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Actors Joe Mantegna and Gary Sinise will return as co-hosts.

“In this unprecedented time, when the nation needs it most, we will bring Americans together as one family to honor our heroes,” said Executive Producer Michael Colbert.

Mantegna told The Associated Press that in addition to honoring and remembering those that have served and sacrificed, "This year’s show will be expanded to salute medical workers struggling to treat people sick with COVID-19."

The 31st annual National Memorial Day Concert will be televised on PBS on Sunday, May 24 from 8pm to 9:30pm ET. The concert will also stream on Facebook, YouTube, and PBS.org.
