Pixies Release New Song 'Dregs of the Wine'

Pixies have released a new single from their upcoming album Doggerel.

Titled “Dregs of the Wine," the song is the first Pixies track co-written by guitarist Joey Santiago, with frontman Black Francis providing the lyrics – which cover everything from life in Los Angeles in the '90s to wild Vegas nights.

“I guess I was in kind of a zombie state, just playing,” Santiago said of working on the song in a press statement. “After I stopped playing, I put it down and went, ‘Well, that was a f-----g waste of time, what a piece of s--t I am.’ I beat myself up a lot, but my girlfriend, unbeknownst to me, was recording me. She played it back to me, and I go, ‘F--k! Hold on a second here! This stuff is good!’”

Doggerel will be out September 30, boasting 12 tracks. Besides "Dregs of the Wine," the band have shared the previous singles “There’s a Moon On” and “Vault of Heaven.”

Pixies have released three LPs since they reunited in 2004: 2014’s Indie Cindy, 2016’s Head Carrier, and, most recently, 2019’s Beneath the Eyrie. Doggerel was recorded with producer Tom Dalgety, and, in addition to drummer David Lovering, bassist Paz Lenchantin returns on the new album. You can pre-order the record here.
