Rare Copy of Sex Pistols' 'God Save The Queen' Set for Auction

This week, one of only ten surviving copies of the Sex Pistols' single "God Save The Queen" is going up for auction.

The vinyl record will be up for auction at Wessex Auction Rooms at Westbrook Farm in Chippenham this Friday, Nov. 1. The vinyl that was produced when the band signed to A&M Records in 1977 is expected to go for £12,000-£15,000 ($15,400-$19,300 USD).

Shortly after publicly signing at a press ceremony held outside Buckingham Palace, drama ensued that led to A&M Records breaking the contract and ordering that all copies of the single be destroyed. Only ten copies survived after being stored in the vault of the record label.

Regarding the record, the Swindon Advertiser, auctioneer, and vinyl expert Martin Hughes said, “I have had the privilege of selling many rare records but this is certainly the most exciting of them all."

He continued, “The Sex Pistols will always be the most iconic punk band, and perhaps also one of the most culturally significant. This is a chance for a collector to own a piece of music history.”
