Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Nas, & More Push for New York Police Reform

Rihanna, Ariana Grande, and Nas are just a few of the hundreds of artists, executives, managers, and other music industry professionals that have signed an open letter pushing for New York police reform. Specifically, the letter calls for the repeal of statute 50-A, a section of New York Civil Rights Law that shields police misconduct records from public view.

The letter, which was shared on Monday, reads, "We mourn the killing of George Floyd and the unnecessary loss of so many black lives before his. We must hold accountable those who violate the oath to protect and serve, and find justice for those who are victim to their violence. An indispensable step is having access to disciplinary records of law enforcement officers. New York statute 50-A blocks that full transparency, shielding a history of police misconduct from public scrutiny, making it harder to seek justice and bring about reform. It must be repealed immediately.”

Billie Eilish, Justin Bieber, Megan Thee Stallion, Migos, Demi Lovato, Meek Mill, and Anderson .Paak are just some of the other artists who signed the letter that was sent to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, New York Senate Majority Leader Andrew Stewart-Cousins, and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie.
