Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Replaces Live Induction Ceremony With Pre-Recorded Special

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame originally postponed the live 2020 induction ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the ceremony is now canceled and a pre-recorded HBO special will take its place.

The pre-recorded special will honor this year's inductees: Depeche Mode, The Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, Nine Inch Nails, The Notorious B.I.G., T. Rex, and longtime managers Jon Landau and Irving Azoff.

Throughout the special, there will be “acceptance speeches, interviews with Inductees and artists by whom they’ve been influenced, archival content and more.”

“To protect the health and safety of our Inductees, their families, crews and our attendees, we’ve made the decision that the scheduled live event is not possible,” said John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “Together with HBO and executive producer Joel Gallen, we will still create an exciting program honoring our 2020 inductees, by telling the stories of their incredible contributions to music and impact on a generation of artists that followed them.”

The physical event was originally planned to be broadcast live on HBO, so a pre-recorded special will simply take its place. The pre-recorded HBO special will air Saturday, Nov. 7 at 8pm ET.

Next year’s Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony is set to take place in Fall 2021 in Cleveland.
