Singer Mike Posner to Climb Mount Everest for Charity
On Monday, March 29, Mike Posner announced he will climb Mount Everest in April and May to raise money for the Detroit Justice Center through corporate sponsors and a GoFundMe page.
The climb up the world's highest mountain (which rises to 29,000 feet) comes after Posner spent 18 months doing intensive high altitude training in Colorado. With the help of his trainer, Dr. John Kedrowski, the Grammy-nominated singer scaled over 40 peaks in preparation for Everest.
This is not the first adventure Posner has proposed. In 2019, he embarked on a walk across America: a six-month trek starting in Asbury Park, New Jersey and ending in Venice Beach, California. Although a rattlesnake bite halted his progress, he made it to California in October 2019.

"While my walk across America was about me finding myself, I want my climb to be about others," Posner said in the statement on his GoFundMe page. "My father, rest his soul, was a criminal defense attorney in Detroit for 40 years before he died. That’s why I’ve decided to dedicate my climb to raising funds for the Detroit Justice Center - the only organization of it's kind doing criminal justice reform work that would make my dad beam with joy - and it's led by Black women."
Posner leaves for Kathmandu, Nepal this week to complete the climb within several months. As for his music career, Posner's latest single "Momma Always Told Me," featuring Stanaj and Yung Bae, was released in January. His 2010 song "Please Don't Go" received a surge in popularity recently when it became part of the TikTok #PleaseDontGo challenge.
