Sufjan Stevens Announces Next Album 'Javelin' & Shares New Single

Sufjan Stevens is releasing his first true singer-songwriter album since Carrie & Lowell. His next album will be called Javelin and it's out October 6. The upcoming LP is also Stevens’ first traditional solo record since 2020’s The Ascension.

A full tracklist for the LP has been released and the single "So Are You Tired" has been dropped. Pitchfork reports Stevens made the new record alongside friends - Adrienne Maree Brown, Hannah Cohen, Pauline Delassus, Megan Lui, and Nedelle Torrisi - and the National’s Bryce Dessner, who played acoustic and electric guitar for the track “Sh-- Talk.”

Additionally, Stevens made a book of art and essays to go with the new album, too. The 48-page collection features collages and 10 essays. The musician also designed the new record’s cover artwork.

In other Sufjan Stevens news, the alternative artist released the ballet soundtrack Reflections earlier in 2023. In recent years, he’s also shared the five-volume instrumental collection Convocations and collaborated with Angelo De Augustine on A Beginner’s Mind. His album Illinois was recently adapted into a stage show.
