Taylor Swift Releases 'Wildest Dreams (Taylor's Version)'

Red (Taylor's Version) isn't coming out until November, but in the meantime, Taylor Swift has shared a new version of her 1989 song "Wildest Dreams."

The re-recorded track was surprise dropped on Friday, September 17. Swift previously previewed the song in a teaser trailer for the 2021 film Spirit Untamed: a children’s movie whose soundtrack features contributions from Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold, Isabella Merced, and Amie Doherty, among others.

The release was also partly influenced by TikTok. “Hi! Saw you guys got Wildest Dreams trending on TikTok, thought you should have my version,” Taylor wrote on Twitter, alongside some kissing emojis. Her tweet refers to a growing TikTok trend where users lip sync along with "Wildest Dream's" bridge — “See me in hindsight / tangled up with you all night” — while using the app’s slow zoom feature.

Taylor also contributed to the "Wildest Dreams" trend, releasing her own video with the slow zoom effect. "You set a date in November with Red but then someone mentions 1989" states a title in the beginning of the 10-second video.

The release sent Swifties into complete shock, with some fans searching for clues and Easter eggs throughout Taylor's social media. Some believe the strange "glitch" in the middle of her TikTok could mean something important, with one fan account offering a theory that the re-recorded Red and 1989 eras are meant to overlap.

In any case, "Wildest Dreams (Taylor's Version)" will be released as part of Swift's future 1989 re-recording. How far in the future the re-recording will be dropped is yet to be seen. But for now, Swift has released her first re-recorded album, Fearless (Taylor's Version), which came out earlier this year.

Red (Taylor’s Version) will arrive November 19 and includes new contributions from Phoebe Bridgers, Chris Stapleton, and Ed Sheeran. You can pre-order vinyl, CD, or digital versions of the album on Taylor Swift's official online store.
