The Prodigy Frontman Keith Flint Dies at 49
Keith Flint, a founding member and lead singer of the Prodigy, has died at the age of 49. He was found at his home in Essex, England on Monday.
In a statement, the Prodigy confirmed the news, “It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint. A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed. We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time.”
Although there has been no official cause of death, the Prodigy founder Liam Howlett wrote on Instagram, “The news is true, I can’t believe I’m saying this but our brother Keith took his own life over the weekend. I’m shell shocked, fuckin angry, confused and heart broken ….. r.i.p brother.”
The Prodigy were founded in Braintree, Essex in the early 1990s and quickly found success in the U.K. Flint originally joined the band as a dancer, but later became a frontman alongside rapper Maxim Reality. He performed the vocals on the Prodigy’s best known singles, "Firestarter" and "Breathe." As the frontman of the Prodigy, Flint brought punk-style vocals, facial piercings, colorful spiked hair, an intense stare, and endless energy to the English electronic band.
The Prodigy are scheduled to headline their first U.S. tour in a decade starting on May 3 in Jacksonville, Florida. There has been no indication as to whether the shows will go ahead.
