The Smashing Pumpkins Share Details of Next Album 'Aghori Mhori Mei'

The Smashing Pumpkins will soon be releasing the follow-up to their three-act rock opera album, ATUM. This next LP is called Aghori Mhori Mei and is set to drop August 2.

The new record is their 13th studio effort and will only span 10 tracks. Aghori Mhori Mei was recorded in the midst of the veteran Chicago band’s busy touring schedule over the past few years. It's also the first Smashing Pumpkins album since longtime guitarist Jeff Schroeder departed the band in the autumn of 2023. Pitchfork reports that at least on tour, Schroeder’s place is being filled by Kiki Wong.

“In the writing of this new album I became intrigued with the well-worn axiom, ‘you can’t go home again’,” guitarist/singer Billy Corgan said in a statement about the album, according to Billboard. “Which I have found personally to be true in form but thought well, what if we tried anyway? Not so much in looking backwards with sentimentality but rather as a means to move forward; to see if in the balance of success and failure that our ways of making music circa 1990-1996 would still inspire something revelatory.”

In other Smashing Pumpkins news, the band will be doing shows with Green Day and others for the Saviors Tour. They'll start their trek on July 29. Tickets can be found here.
