The Velvet Underground’s 'The Complete Matrix Tapes' To Be Released on Vinyl
In 1969, the Velvet Underground recorded a number of their performances at the Matrix in San Francisco that were later released as The Complete Matrix Tapes in 2015. Now, that collection of live recordings is being released on vinyl for the first time.
The Complete Matrix Tapes will be released as a limited-edition 8xLP box on July 12 via Polydor/UMe. The set features 43 tracks, including nine that are previously unreleased. The box set is available for preorder here.
Capturing highlights from the Nov. 26-27, 1969 performances, The Complete Matrix Tapes features the Velvet Underground’s lineup after the departure of John Cale, which included Doug Yule, Lou Reed, Sterling Morrison, and Maureen Tucker.
