Third Man Records to Release Prince’s Shelved 1986 Album 'Camille'

Third Man Records is set to issue Prince’s previously unreleased 1986 album Camille. It was a record the late artist created under his feminine alter ego, "Camille," before hiding it away from the public.

“We’re finally going to put it out,” label co-founder Ben Blackwell told the magazine Mojo in a print interview shared by the fansite UltimatePrince.com. “Prince’s people agreed — almost too easy.”

Camille will include eight tracks in total, which have all been officially released in some capacity, although spread apart over different projects over the years. All of the tracks see Prince's usage of pitched-up vocals, one of the signature characteristics of his alter ego. At the time of writing, a release date for the album has yet to be announced.

As for where the tracks have been released before: “Housequake,” “Strange Relationship,” and “If I Was Your Girlfriend” appear on Sign o’ the Times; “Feel U Up” is the B-side to Batman single “Partyman”; “Shockadelica” is the B-side to 1987 single “If I Was Your Girlfriend”; “Good Love” appears on the Bright Lights, Big City soundtrack; “Rockhard in a Funky Place” is on The Black Album; and “Rebirth of the Flesh” was recently added to the 2020 super deluxe reissue of Sign o’ the Times.

This is Prince's latest posthumous album since Welcome 2 America, which came out in 2021. Prior to that, several never-before-heard songs were released, including “Cosmic Day,” “Born 2 Die,” and “Hot Summer.” Additionally, Prince's estate has released a series of posthumous compilations, demos, and album reissues, including the 2016 greatest hits album 4Ever, a deluxe version of the Purple Rain soundtrack, 2018’s Piano and a Microphone, and 2019’s Originals.

In other Prince news, Alamo Drafthouse theaters will screen a 4K restoration of the concert film Sign o’ the Times nationwide. It's out next month, and tickets can be found here.
