Thundercat Shares Two New Singles

Bass-playing baddie Thundercat has shared two new singles this week! Both tunes were produced with the help of Greg Kurstin, and come just before the artist embarks on a North American tour next month.

The first song is a pensive slow jam called "I Wish I Didn't Waste Your Time." In the piece, Thundercat laments about breaking things off with a lover...and the boundaries he may or may not have crossed.

"You gotta know the lines / To know just where to draw them / I think I'm in too deep / Maybe it's all my faults / Creeping up behind / I wish I didn't waste your time," Stephen Lee Bruner croons in the song's chorus. It comes with an animated visual in which the singer-songwriter tries to open up his own brain before it hops back into his skull.

Thundercat's second song is a collaboration with fellow funk artist Remi Wolf. It's an upbeat banger called "Children of the Baked Potato," and comes with a visual that sees both artists posing in a boxing-themed photoshoot.

The title of “Children of the Baked Potato” refers to a Los Angeles jazz club called the Baked Potato. “[Remi Wolf is] a child of the Baked Potato, like me,” Thundercat said in a statement acquired by Pitchfork. “She knew exactly what the song needed. And it was wild to watch her make it happen. The more I listen to the song, it’s clear there was no one better I could have picked.”

It's unclear if these two new songs will be part of a bigger project for Thundercat. His last LP was the 2020 project It Is What It Is: a record which earned him the 2021 Grammy for Best Progressive R&B Album.

Thundercat wrapped up a South American trek back in August. As previously stated, he will begin his North American tour on October 15 in Atlanta. He'll perform in Miami, Philadelphia, Toronto, Chicago, and a few more cities. You can find information about tickets on the artist's official website.
