Tim McGraw & Faith Hill Tapped for Paramount+ 'Yellowstone' Prequel Series

Paramount Network's ranching drama series Yellowstone is getting a prequel starring Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. Entitled 1883, the origin series is set to premiere in early 2022 on Paramount+.

McGraw and Hill will play James and Margaret Dutton, the parents of Yellowstone's protagonist John Dutton, as they make the journey west through the Great Plains. Sam Elliott will also star as Shea Brennan, the cowboy tasked with guiding the group from Texas to Montana.

“This is truly a dream job,” McGraw said in a statement. “The Duttons are tremendous characters and it’s so thrilling to be able to bring them to life. As a kid growing up riding horses, you think about dream jobs like this and I am just so excited to work with this amazing cast and crew.”

Hill added, “The Duttons are a formidable family and it is an absolute dream to bring such a strong female character like Margaret Dutton to life.”

1883 comes from Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan. Since Yellowstone's premiere in 2018, it has become a popular placement for country, Americana, and Red Dirt tracks, including songs by Brothers Osborne, Whiskey Myers, Blackberry Smoke, Chris Stapleton, and Tyler Childers.

As for the Grammy-winning couple, McGraw and Hill will make their return to the screen. Previously, McGraw has starred in films like Friday Night Lights and The Blind Side, while Hill appeared in The Stepford Wives and 2017 indie film Dixieland.

Although 1883 isn't set to debut until 2022, Yellowstone, starring Kevin Costner, returns for a fourth season this November.
