Watch Thundercat Perform 'Dragonball Durag' on 'Colbert'
Respected funk bassist Thundercat was the musical guest on last night's episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Joined by Jon Batiste, he performed the song "Dragonball Durag" from his Grammy-winning album It Is What It Is.
Thundercat started things off quiet and smooth before him and Batiste broke out into two impressive instrumental solos. Batiste showed off his skills on the piano while Thundercat's fingers flew on the bass. The amazing moment was reminiscent of jazz improvisation.
It was not the first time Thundercat had performed on Colbert, let alone with Jon Batiste by his side. In 2018, the bassist came on the show to perform "Them Changes" with Batiste as backup. That song came from his acclaimed 2017 record Drunk.
Thundercat is about halfway through his It Is What It Is tour trek. On Friday and Saturday (November 5 and 6), he will be playing at New York City's Terminal 5. Channel Tres will be the opener. After that, he'll travel to Boston, Canada, and cities on the west coast. You can still find available tickets here.
In other Thundercat news, the bassist contributed to Flying Lotus’ score for the Netflix anime series Yasuke earlier this year. He appeared on the single “Black Gold.”
