Zendaya to Play Ronnie Spector in New Biopic

Ronnie Spector’s 1990 memoir Be My Baby is being adapted into a new biopic and Zendaya has signed on to star in the film.

Be My Baby recounts Spector’s career as lead singer of The Ronettes as well as her emotionally abusive marriage to Phil Spector. According to Deadline, Spector handpicked Zendaya to portray her in her early years.

A24 and New Regency have teamed up on the film and playwright Jackie Sibblies Drury is in talks to write the script. The film will be produced by Marc Platt, Adam Siegel, Mark Itkin, Tom Shelly, and Zendaya, with Jonathan Greenfield and Spector serving as executive producers.
