Beatles Biopics: Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, Harris Dickinson & Joseph Quinn Cast as Fab Four

If you haven't heard, 1917 and Skyfall director Sam Mendes is creating a tetralogy of movies about all four members of the Beatles. He officially confirmed the main cast and release date for his Beatles biopics at Sony’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas on March 31, as BBC News reports.

All of the films - each told from a different member of the Fab Four's perspective - are set to drop April 2028. They will star Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr.

While Peter Jackson recently directed the 2021 documentary The Beatles: Get Back, Mendes’ tetralogy will mark the first scripted films to be granted the band’s music and life rights. It’s uncertain if Mescal will meet with McCartney ahead of shooting. The same goes for Keoghan, who could reach out to Starr for suggestions on how to capture the drummer.

Speaking of preparation, it's unclear what kind of musical training the actors may undergo in order to accurately capture the talents of the Beatles. Fortunately, three of the four members have known to be musically inclined. The most well-known is Joseph Quinn, who, like George Harrison, is able to play guitar. He learned to strum the instrument for his iconic "Master of Puppets" scene in Stranger Things, and even had a jam sesh with Metallica in 2022.

As for Keoghan and Mescal, both actors have publicly showed off their singing capabilities. Keoghan recently sang and danced in the 2024 Andrea Arnold film Bird. Mescal, on the other hand, has a background in musical theatre and is currently starring in Richard Linklater's long-term film adaptation of the musical Merrily We Roll Along. Like McCartney, Mescal also plays piano and guitar. He's even performed covers of songs with his sister, singer Nell Mescal.

The Beatles themselves helmed a handful of theatrical films during their run: A Hard Day’s NightHelp!Magical Mystery TourYellow Submarine, and Let It Be. They recently won Best Rock Performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards for “Now and Then,” a salvaged and digitally restored Lennon demo dating back to the 1970s.
