You may have heard that over the weekend pop star Bebe Rexha received a black eye and stitches after a phone was thrown at her face during a sold-out hometown concert at Pier 17. The gruesome picture of Rexha's injury has become viral over the internet. Now, the NYPD’s preliminary investigation has found 27-year-old New Jersey native Nicolas Malvagna “intentionally threw a cell phone” at the 33-year-old, and has been charged with several counts of assault and harassment.
It was reported that Malvagna was taken into custody and arraigned on Monday evening, when he was charged with two counts of assault in the third degree, as well as one count of harassment in the second degree, one count of aggravated harassment in the second degree, and a count of attempted assault in the third degree.
Rolling Stone reported that the Manhattan District Attorney’s office said in addition to confessing to the phone toss, Malvagna told them, “I was trying to see if I could hit her with the phone at the end of the show because it would be funny.”
Footage of the scary moment shows the singer falling to her knees after the flying cell struck her near the eye. However, Rexha took it in stride, posting a pic of her bruised face on Monday morning with the caption, “I’m good.” The incident happened towards the end of her concert, and she visited the hospital following the performance.
Despite her injury, the "I'm a Mess" singer isn't giving up on touring. Rexha's next scheduled tour stop is on Tuesday night (June 20) at the Fillmore in Philadelphia as part of her Best F’n Night of My Life Tour. You can get tickets here.
