Bobby Shmurda Returns with New Song & Upcoming Festival Performance
Brooklyn rapper Bobby Shmurda has shared the new song "No Time for Sleep (Freestyle)." It's his first piece of new music since being released from prison in February and his first new single as lead artist in seven years.
Shmurda was released from Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate New York on February 23, 2021. Back in 2016, he had been sentenced to seven years in prison in a plea deal he said he’d been “forced” into after a 2014 arrest for conspiracy, reckless endangerment, and gun possession.
Shmurda's release from prison was highly anticipated by fans and other artists - including rapper Rowdy Rebel, who had also been arrested. Although he had been denied parole in September, Shmurda had credit restored for good behavior in early January. Shmurda said he had accepted the deal to help land a lighter sentence for Rowdy Rebel, who was released from Collins Correctional Facility in December 2020.
Shmurda's "No Time for Sleep" has some lines which reflect upon his time in prison. Mainly, it's an ambitious trap track that has Shmurda explaining he's got money on his mind. The single is accompanied by a new music video, which was released today (September 3).
Additionally, Shmurda is set to make an appearance at this year's Made In America festival. Despite Hurricane Ida flooding the Philadelphia area, the festival is still set to run this weekend. Shmurda will perform on Sunday, September 5 at 5:45pm on the Rocky Stage.
In other Bobby Shmurda news, the rapper joined J Balvin and Daddy Yankee on a remix of Eladio Carrión’s “Tata” in July.
