With Chappell Roan's meteoric rise comes another first: Roan's first time being interviewed on a late-night show. Not only did the fast-rising pop star have a gripping discussion with Jimmy Fallon about her newfound fame, but 'your favorite artist's favorite artist' also used her visit on June 20 to perform a magical rendition of her hit "Good Luck, Babe!"
To start the interview, Fallon pulled out a photo of a young Roan performing onstage years ago before a handful of people, which the singer recalled was from “this weird gay festival” and “I think it was the first time I performed ‘Pink Pony Club’ in front of the world,” she added. ("Pink Pony Club" is one of the tracks on Roan's The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.) Fallon then showed the audience a photo of the massive crowd that had gathered for Roan's headline-grabbing performance at New York’s Governors Ball festival earlier this month, to wild applause from the crowd.

Asked how that felt, Roan joked, “It feels like I was right all along,” before adding more humbly, “I felt kind of like I’d made it already, when people showed up to my concerts a few years ago, and this is the cherry on top.”
Fallon then questioned Roan about her style inspirations, and her now-famous Coachella quote, "I'm your favorite artist's favorite artist." About the latter question, Roan explained it comes from veteran drag performer Sasha Colby’s quote, “I’m your favorite drag queen’s favorite drag queen.”
Roan said, “That [quote] just hit me through the heart, and I hope some day Sasha watches me and hears that.”
Other notable moments from the interview included Roan hilariously roasting Fallon for Googling her ("Did you not know who I was before?"), Roan revealing what she would be doing if she hadn't made it in the industry, and Roan's adorable nail clapping.
After the interview, it was time for Roan to blow the audience away with her performance. In a contrast to the Black Swan-esque outfit she donned on the couch, Roan wore an all-white feathery ensemble onstage. The Swan Lake aesthetic came with vivid garden-like scenery and astounding vocal range on the final “I told you so!” segment of the track. After her performance, Roan received a standing ovation from the audience.
Roan currently has three songs on the Billboard Hot 100 ("Good Luck, Babe!", "Red Wine Supernova," and "HOT TO GO!") and multiple festival appearances set for the summer. Her last late-night performance happened on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert just four months ago.
