When Donald Glover unexpectedly postponed concert dates of his 2024 Childish Gambino tour due to "health issues," fans were left in the dark wondering what happened to the musician. Over a year later - during his highly-anticipated performance at Tyler the Creator's Camp Flog Gnaw music festival - Glover finally opened up about what actually happened after his New Orleans show in September 2024.
During his set on Saturday (November 22), the 42-year-old rapper revealed to the crowd he was hospitalized after the Louisiana concert because he had suffered a stroke. “I had a really bad pain in my head in Louisiana, and I did the show anyway. I couldn’t really see well,” he told the crowd. At the time, Glover called off his next show, in Houston, Texas, and went to a hospital in the city, where he was diagnosed.

“The first thing I thought was, like, ‘Oh, like, here I am still copying Jamie Foxx,’" he joked. "That’s really like the second thing. The first thing was, like, ‘I’m letting everybody down.’” He went on to describe a spate of other health problems he’d experienced over the last year, including a broken foot and even a hole in his heart, both of which required surgery.
“They say everybody has two lives, and the second life starts when you realize you have one. You should be living your life how you want. If we have to do this again, it can only get better,” Glover reflected.
After his hospitalization, Glover was forced to cancel the rest of his world tour so that he could recover from surgery. Since then, he remained relatively out of the public eye until his Camp Flog Gnaw performance.
Glover's tour was in support of his 2024 album, Bando Stone and the New World. He has described it as the last LP under his Childish Gambino moniker.
