Green Day Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of 'American Idiot' with Album Reissue

Green Day are reissuing American Idiot to honor the landmark album’s 20th anniversary. The digital deluxe edition arrives October 25 and includes unreleased demos, B-sides, live versions, two Blu-Ray discs, and bonus songs.

The 8xLP box set edition features a new documentary on the album, 20 Years of American Idiot, alongside the 2015 documentary Heart Like a Hand Grenade. As for the live versions of tracks, they come from a September 2024 album release show at New York City’s Irving Plaza club. Three of the bonus tracks, a “Holiday/Boulevard of Broken Dreams” demo, the B-side “Favorite Son,” and the Irving Plaza recording of the song “Minority,” are available to stream now. You can pre-order the reissue here.

American Idiot will officially turn 20 on September 21. It first arrived in 2004, during a relative decline in the band's popularity. American Idiot reinvigorated Green Day’s career, earning six-time Platinum certification from the RIAA and spawning hits in the title track, “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “Holiday,” and “Wake Me up When September Ends.” The album was their first #1 on the Billboard Hot 200 and won them a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album in 2005. American Idiot also inspired a Tony-winning Broadway musical – a punk rock opera.

Green Day is currently on tour playing American Idiot in full to celebrate the upcoming milestone. They’re also performing 1994’s Dookie in its entirety in celebration of its 30th anniversary. The band previously reissued Dookie, as well as 1997’s Nimrod. Green Day’s most recent album was this year’s Saviors.
