Iron Maiden wants their fans to live in the moment.
The heavy metal band is known for their theatrical stage productions, but concert-goers may want to think twice before pulling out their phones to record anything. Via digital remarks from longtime manager Rod Smallwood, the band is asking fans to “severely limit” phone usage during their upcoming European Run for Your Lives Tour.

“We really want fans to enjoy the shows first hand, rather than on their small screens,” said Smallwood in a blog post titled “Put away your phones and get ready to Run For Your Lives!” on the band’s official website. “The amount of phone use nowadays diminishes enjoyment, particularly for the band who are on stage looking out at rows of phones, but also for other concertgoers.”
For now, it doesn't seem like there will be any strict punishments for those who choose to sneak the occasional picture or video. But knowing Iron Maiden's extremely loyal fanbase, it's possible you may stand out in the crowd if you choose to pull out your device.
Iron Maiden are far from the first band to ask fans to put their phones back in their pockets. Billboard reports that in 2015, Jack White shared a verbal plea for no phones during his Lazaretto tour, and by the time The Raconteurs toured in 2019, attendees were told to put their devices in locked Yondr pouches. Other acts, such as Tool, have also employed a similar approach, requesting fans stay off their phones until their final performance. They even implemented an ejection policy for those who disobeyed orders.
The upcoming Run for Your Lives World Tour will be Iron Maiden’s first performances since wrapping their The Future Past Tour in São Paulo, Brazil in December. The veteran British heavy metal outfit will launch their new trek in Budapest, Hungary on May 27. The shows will also kick off their 50th anniversary celebrations, and see the debut of drummer Simon Dawson. You can find tickets here.
