Katy Perry is channeling her inner "E.T." – the pop star will be visiting outer space on one of Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin rockets this spring.
Former TV correspondent Lauren Sanchez – the fiancee of Bezos – and TV host Gayle King will also be on the 11th human spaceflight for the company. The six-person crew – all women – is rounded out by Amanda Nguyen, Kerianne Flynn, and Aisha Bowe. Flynn is a film producer, Nguyen is a civil rights activist who was instrumental in drafting the Sexual Assault Survivors' Rights Act, and Bowe is a former NASA rocket scientist who advocates for women and girls in STEM careers.

Sanchez "brought the crew together" to launch on the New Shepard rocket, according to Blue Origin. There is no set date for the launch yet, but Blue Origin said it would take place this spring. The trip will last only about 10 minutes and reach a height of about 65 miles above Earth. The Kármán line, considered the boundary between Earth's atmosphere and outer space, is 62 miles.
There's just one conflict for Perry: the singer kicks off her Lifetimes Tour on April 23, which goes through November. This means she'll need to get in the air before the opening concert or find the time in-between shows.
Perry will not be the first celebrity to fly on a Bezos rocket. Good Morning America co-host Michael Strahan traveled on New Shepard in December 2021 – just the company's third manned spaceflight."Star Trek" actor William Shatner visited space two months before Strahan on the second crewed mission. Bezos himself flew on his company's first manned mission. Comedian Pete Davidson was also supposed to launch into space on New Shepard in March 2022, but blamed a scheduling issue for his decision to cancel the ride.
Katy Perry released her most recent LP, 1432, back in December 2024. She received the Video Vanguard Award at last year's VMAs ceremony, and completed her Las Vegas residency (Katy Perry: Play) in November 2023. You can find tickets for her upcoming tour here.
