Kelly Clarkson Talks 'The Voice' & Ariana Grande's Humor in 'The Tonight Show' Interview

Kelly Clarkson had a sit-down interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show on Monday evening (August 23) to talk The Voice, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and Ariana Grande's comedic chops.

Starting with her new Voice co-coach, Clarkson had nothing but praise to say about Grande. "We had actually run into each other a couple of times before, but not really like, been able to talk and she so's funny. Like, very witty," Clarkson said. “She’s hysterical.”

Clarkson also remarked that Ariana talks more about vocal health in her critiques of performances, and the studio audience erupts whenever she walks onto set. Clarkson compared Grande's entrance to the fan passion behind BTS, making her entrance a hard one to follow for Blake Shelton, who walks on after her.

Grande, Clarkson, Shelton, and John Legend are on deck for season 21 of The Voice, which premieres Sept. 20 on NBC. The new season is taped up until the live episodes, and “everybody vibes so well,” Clarkson said.

Additionally, Clarkson talked about how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted her television program, The Kelly Clarkson Show.

“Our whole show is about connection -- this is irony -- in the middle of our season, we were connecting and then COVID happened. And everyone was isolated,” she explained. “That was kinda crushing.”

Nonetheless, the show goes on. “When you do focus on helping others,” she said, “it helps you through your own stuff.”
