If you're a Kid Cudi fan, you're going to have something really good to read on the beach this summer. The rapper has announced an upcoming memoir. The new book, Cudi, will drop on Tuesday, August 5, via Simon & Schuster.
According to the book’s description, Cudi is “a story of survival—through depression, addiction, isolation, and doubt.” In addition, the 41-year-old rapper, singer, and actor shared on social media, “Its filled w so much about my journey from my first memory to turning 40. Life lessons, the rager period of my life, and fighting my demons. All the way to the present, where happiness has found me.”

Simon & Schuster calls the book “raw” and “fearless,” saying, “Cudi: The Memoir is Scott Mescudi’s most personal work yet. Across a trailblazing career, he’s turned pain into poetry with anthems like ‘Day ’N’ Nite,’ ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ and ‘Mr. Rager,'” in a description. “His music gave voice to the unheard and hope to the unseen. But while he was ascending to cultural dominance, he was quietly unraveling. Written during a time of deep self-discovery, Cudi is a story of survival—through depression, addiction, isolation, and doubt. In his own words, Scott charts the journey back to himself, offering hard-earned lessons on vulnerability, reinvention, and the courage to keep going.”
The memoir announcement comes just after Kid Cudi released a single called "Neverland" on May 9. According to Billboard, it's the first single off of Cudi’s upcoming album, NOW! The new single comes after his last record, 2024’s Insano, was intended as his swan song. Cudi had talked about retiring back in 2022, writing on X he had one more project in him before delving into other creative avenues.
“Im doin 1 more album and then im done w my deal and not sure what ima do after that but yea, 1 more,” he wrote at the time. “Wont be next year. Keep u posted.” In a follow up post, Cudi added, “This is for all my fans that have been ridin w me for so long. This will be all new music. The songs ive teased ill prolly put out as singles here and there to hold u over.”
In addition to the single and memoir, Cudi wrote he’s directing and starring in his first feature film in 2026 based on a story he came up with himself. In an Instagram post, he described When the Light Dies as a "horror/romance film. Ive been wanting to direct movies ever since I was a kid, and im finally stepping into this new chapter." The post also teased his directing Instagram page, where he promised to bring fans “on the journey. Ive been doing test shoots, trying diff lighting techniques and trying diff lenses, and I wanna give u guys access to my mind. Who’s joining the journey?”
